Whats happening @ Kwetu

Whether you are looking backpackers accommodation  in the Western Cape, or a cozy chalet,  Kwetu could be the place for you.  We’ve slowly expanded our range of accommodation to offer folks with different budgets an opportunity to choose between a range of holiday accommodation.

Our three apartments at the bottom of the farm have humbler settings but cheaper rates, and still offer all the opportunities to walk and enjoy the whole farm, from fishing to game walks or picnics.  We’ve upgraded the insulation in all of our units after feedback from the guests, and we’ve also installed a small fireplace in Finley, our long room.  if you have time, I personally recommend a sunset drink at the very top of the farm.  Spectacular views for a romantic moment… Beware of the wind at the top, it can be quite strong at times.

Our three chalets on the farm are not luxury accommodation by any means, but they offer our guests an indoor fireplace, and an outside braai, not to mention the views from the veranda are breathtaking.  In the early morning hours, it is quite common to watch the game roam around the cottages, or get a personal visit from our star horse, Mister Finley.  Don’t forget to feed him a couple of apples, and you will have a friend for life 🙂   Being self catering, based on the feedback from our guests, we’ve stocked the kitchen with most items one would need to do some decent cooking, and we  encourage all of you to provide us with feedback if you wish to see something else added in their kitchen.  If you’re staying in one of the accommodations that has a pot with herbs, be kind to your plants and water them between two glasses of wine 🙂

From a pure farm holiday point of view, thanks to Kobus Kritzinger and his Permaculture design, we’ve expanded our organic veggie garden, and we encourage our guests to help themselves to the vegetables of the season.  Beware we do not use any pesticides on the farm, and we also encourage our guests to help us by separating their kitchen waste, so we can reduce our footprint, and compost your leftover vegetables, fruits, coffee grounds etc.

Kwetu has been blessed with a windfall of newborns, from Wildebeest, Bontebok, and Springbok,  and our free range chicken have been working overtime, and laying more eggs than ever before.  Inquire with Adele, and if we have some spare, I am sure our chicken will donate a couple for your scrambled eggs.

From a safety point of view, fire season is upon us.  Be careful out there with fires and cigarettes, and remember that a blaze can spread very fast.  Keep yourselves and your loved ones safe.

Most importantly, the holidays are here.  Have a blast at Kwetu, Merry Christmas to all, and by all means let us know if we can help you in any way.  Swellendam is a beautiful little place, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
